The Client

Benny Smyth is a premier event DJ based in Birmingham, the West Midlands and Warwickshire.

The Brief

We have worked with Benny Smyth several times alongside our sister wedding videography company, Blue Ridge Films.

He wanted a corporate brand film for his company that could also be used across his social media marketing.

The Approach

As a Midlands videography company, we get the chance to work with many companies while producing live event films. Benny was full of ideas for his commercial filming, and we worked closely with him through all of pre-production, from film concepts to script writing and location scouting.

Benny wanted to keep the filming within the Midlands, and there was no better location than Shustoke Barns. As Green Gorilla and Blue Ridge Films, we have worked at Shustoke many times, creating their venue promotional films and filming dozens of weddings there. The venue is an ideal backdrop for event films, music video production and wedding videography.

The production was split over two days. The first was about capturing the interview. Using a teleprompter can be difficult, but Benny took it in his stride and came across well on camera. The second day was about gathering the footage to support him. Live event filming relies heavily on the audience, as you never quite know what will happen, and Benny picked the perfect wedding for us to film.

The Outcome

A corporate brand film that could also be used as a Facebook video, website film and YouTube video.

I had been working on an idea for a promotional video for a long time and while doing so, I had spoken to various professionals. It was only when I had a chance to speak to Tim at Blue Ridge/Green Gorilla that I felt like I had found someone who understood what it was that I wanted to achieve. Working with Tim, Steve and Nic has been a lot of fun and incredibly educational for me. We worked together developing my ideas and having them offer me a steer on how to achieve my vision, as well as offering alternatives to make more of an impact, has been invaluable. Their work speaks for itself, but to see them go above and beyond to get the best shots that they can whilst still being incredibly relaxed in the process demonstrated to me a team that cares about their final product. The video that I have received is much better than I could have hoped for and I would go as far to say that it's possibly the best promotional video that I, and many others, have ever seen in my industry to date.
